Soccer City Stadium, home World Cup South Africa
The Soccer City Stadium (Stadium Soccer City) in Johannesburg, South Africa was built in 1987 and was the place where Nelson Mandela gave his first speech released in 1990. Given its importance, was chosen as the main stadium for the 2010 World Cup, which will host the opening game … and the final. But this must be renewed to keep up.
This renewal is in charge of Boogertman Urban Edge and Partners with Populous, Firm formerly known as HOK Sports, who went from being a department of one of the world’s largest office to an independent office, and is currently behind several major sports projects around the world.
The stadium will host football fans to 94,000 next year, and its design is based on the abstraction of the calabash, traditional African pot, chosen as a symbol.
Following are more photos of the stadium under construction (or rather remodeling), which with our selection next year.
