The center Epsilon Euskadi design by study Spanish ACXT

Epsilon Euskadi is a center of innovation and research designed by the Automotive Technology Javier Perez Uribarri Study Spanish ACXT in the Basque city of Vitoria- Gasteiz.
The Centre comprises three activities: 1. Design, R & D and manufacture of racing cars , 2 . Management of sports teams that aspire to Anetra in F1 in 2011, and 3. Training AdvancedOrganizing a Master of technical specialization for engineers in motor racing.

A wind tunnel with a floor cabinet , to test scale models of cars to 50-60 %, various laboratories , spray booths , clean rooms (cleanroom) At a low level of contamination in the manufacture of carbon fiber bodywork , premises for the care of the latter, maintenance workshops , administration and management offices , classrooms of master and up to five different types of circuits (production, maintenance , Training, development and visits ) are organized into a compact and functional building .

On the ground floor are located the premises associated with the generation and maintenance of vehicles. The first floor houses the local research, training, planning and management. Two large courtyards , one above the production area and the other on laboratory maintenance of racing cars can make visual communication and internal mean that a large amount of natural light entering the building. The abundance of light inside contrasts with the profile of curved , almost blind , to protect the confidentiality of the work done inside.

The facade is designed in precast concrete panels on top of which was applied to glass fiber black with the aim to establish an analogy with the formal one of the most commonly used materials for the client: the carbon fiber.

In the interior trim has been used : the ground floor mainly to ceramic wall and floor , first floor carpeting for the floors and drywall for the walls. The ceilings are plaster or aluminum slats painted differently depending on the area .

The use of aerodynamic shapes inspired by vehicles designed by the customer is constant throughout the design of the building.

On the facade, designed the few windows are made of box-shaped curved composite panels. Around these were made of stainless steel tubes that reproduce the airflow lines similar to those produced by the software simulation of aerodynamic flows (CFC ) , and at the same time acts as a sink of solar radiation on the façade, given the importance of temperature stability in many of the processes taking place inside the building. The rectangular shape with rounded edges is also used for the design of the interior windows, doors and the gates for the design of the lamps of the offices and corridors.

The local tunnel , a key element in the path of the visits and the most valuable guests from the building, was designed and illuminated by indirect lights in a spectacular position below the tunnel to give a feeling of ” floating ” and strip phono – absorbers painted aluminum.

The complexity of the facilities and equipment required by the functional program is integrated in the building in an organic way. Above each courtyard has been designed a box beam that is in fact an open patio to accommodate teams that need contact with the outside . Even near the fence of the tunnel on the west facade , was designed a large patio 12 m tall as the building , which extends along the entire facade and contains the external air conditioning units and all high-voltage equipment .

Outside the building volume is enhanced with a porch for the truck racing team and with a large canopy covering the large visitor access and parking . To have three entrances to the building ( the visits , staff and service ) , we appeal again to the red box with rounded corners .
