The Waterhouse new hotel in Shanghai, Neri & Hu

The photographer Pedro Pegenaute has sent us photos of the newly opened boutique hotel at The Waterhouse South Bundin Shanghai. This poetic restoration project has been carried out by Neri & Hu Design and Research Office, one of the most internationally recognized studies that represent the new China cosmopolitan.
The new jewel of Design Hotels, an old warehouse renovated and converted into a luxury hotel, is located in the South Bund district of Shanghai (China). On the banks of the Huangpu River and with spectacular views over the skykline of Pudong, is located in the so-called The Cool Docks, an old port area very close to the Shanghai Expo 2010 that it has become fashionable. But their situation is not what has made this new facility the center of attention. The restoration of the old warehouse in the 30s by Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, a sensitive project and exquisite interior surprising at a time, has left behind all the other hotels in the city.
The new Waterhouse has failed only masterfully mix new and old, but manages to be a link with history and local culture. The hotel, just 19 rooms, aims to offer an extraordinary experience for our guests: the confusion between old and new coexist in the same way they do the interiors and exteriors, public areas with private rooms. Restored with an aesthetic that celebrates the decadent, the hotel retains the essence of its industrial past old warehouse, while combining all the comforts of a luxury hotel.
Waterhouse is probably the hotel with the best collection of contemporary furniture design in China. The architects, who have collaborated with best international brands also in furniture design, have chosen parts legendary Arne Jacobsen, Hans Wegner, Kana Ishikawa Antonio Citterio or to furnish the public spaces and rooms.
